Kabbalah:
"If You Want to Escape the World"

by James Arthur Ray
If you
want to escape the world... Forget Kabbalah! Kabbalah is the
foundation of Western Occultism (meaning secret or hidden)
and while the tendency of Eastern mysticism is to typically
meditate oneself away from the physical world, the objective
of the occultist is to tap into higher realms of consciousness
and ground that power back into the physical plane.
You are
a spiritual being having a physical experience -- not the
other way around. But it is important to remember that you
are having a physical experience. Typically the "ascenders"
have a rift with the "descenders;" and interestingly
enough the opposing philosophy is always considered "sin"
regardless of what side of the fence you are on.
The ascenders
believe that the world should be forsaken for some condo on
a cloud in Heaven, while the descenders believe that Earth
should be experienced, valued and worshipped. The truth is
that both are correct -- or at least partially.
Kabbalah
is a cosmology of consciousness that, when studied and practiced,
allows the occultist or magician to soar into the realms of
the mystic (Heaven) and yet ground that experience in the
magick of Earth.
Unless
you are willing to forgo all your physical pleasures and possessions,
Eastern mysticism will bring you limited results at best.
Let's face it, most of us live in a post-modern society and
we are accustomed to the accouterments that this lifestyle
brings.
Many are
attempting to practice the Eastern approaches to spiritual
enlightenment and while they absolutely work, my experience
is that the occult (hidden or secret) approach is the most
powerful approach for the Western aspirant.
The Eastern
mystic basically divorces himself of the physical world, sits
and clears his mind until he jumps into the realms of God.
To fully tap into this current of energy you must adopt the
yogi lifestyle. I don't know about you, but the lotus position
is very uncomfortable for me and I am really not fond of long-term
fasting and renouncing all my worldly possessions!
The occultist
uses the rituals and magickal processes of Kabbalah to distract,
direct, and discipline the conscious mind; and thereby propel
into the same mystical magickal realms of consciousness. Exact
same destination -- different approach. While the mystic wants
to "ascend" and escape the world, the occultist
chooses to "ascend" as well as "descend"
and have dominion in the world. In other words, to create
life more abundantly in all areas -- physically, financially,
emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
