"Pop
Shamanism is Taking the World by Storm"

by James Arthur Ray
The chances are good that if someone tells you he or she is
a shaman you should be skeptical at best... and possibly look
for the quickest exit. Historically, the ancients had at most
one shaman per tribe and only a small percentage of them were
any good. Countless people are running to their groovy shaman
and rubbing their power objects, but very few have the keys
to any appreciable power.
The best
definition of shamanism I have found is an individual who
has the ability to transverse dimensions of consciousness
and bring back his or her own insights and learning. My teacher
in Peru once told me, "Power is an empty vessel unless
it grows corn." What don Jose was conveying is that while
your spiritual journey may be quite mystical..the results
must be practical.
"Practical
Mysticism" is the balanced and integrated approach that
is able to soar into the realm of the mystic but to bring
that transcendental experience back into physical form and
ground it to create results. Spirituality is not about escaping
the world -- if your objective was to escape you would have
never incarnated into form. Check those who are so-called
"spiritual" and "dialed in" and very quickly
you can tell whether their so called mystical prowess is producing
any tangible results. A good principle is "those who
speak do not know..those who know do not speak." When
you have the power..what more is there to say?
